If you were to take a tour of Wrigley Field, iconic home of the Chicago Cubs, you are likely to hear many stories about the rich history of the beloved franchise going back nearly 150 years. From the Cubs early days of playing in the old West Side Grounds comes the origin of the phrase “out of left field.” Just beyond the left field fence was the Neuropsychiatric Institute which housed many patients dealing with severe mental illnesses. Some of the more colorful stories tell the tales of hearing cries of anguished patients coming from out of left field. All these years later we now use it as a euphemism to refer to something that catches us off guard, is completely unexpected, random, or innovative.
After spending way too many hours brainstorming ideas for the name of our new blog, one of us threw out a name that was completely ridiculous and the other appropriately responded, “well that was from left field.” As Yanely would attest, that pretty much sums up most every team meeting we have; lots of random nonsense, laughter, sports talk, and every now and then some productive work. The more we discussed it, the more it became clear that “From Left Field” is the perfect name for our blog. Not only does it tie into our passion for baseball (Go Rangers!), but it also communicates our desire to bring you a different perspective on all things financial. And yes, we are perfectly aware that our random musings may at times remind you of the cries heard from just outside the left field fence at the old West Side Grounds.
We know there are already enough blogs out there to consume your timeand that starting a blog in 2023 is a bit “vintage”. Our goal is to bring you relevant information, distilled down to the details that matter most. With "From Left Field" we aim to bring people information, rooted in fact, supported by history, and as emotionally disentangled as possible, from a perspective they did not initially see or consider. Our experience provides us a unique perspective to help people deal with the unexpected changes that will most certainly come their way. We appreciate you being along for the ride.
